I’m a LONG way from knowing microscopic pathology, but hopefully these slides as explanations will help me learn to identify more along the way.

Sometimes I am asked “Why is pathology residency 4 years?”. It’s a question almost too big to answer, but when you see that we have to know the microscopic appearance of every human tissue head to toe, and the microscopic appearance of every pathological condition (10s of thousands) head to toe….and that’s only about 30% of what we have to know to become certified, it’s a wonder it’s not 10 years. So, I do hope to post more microscopic stuff here, but it’s tough because there is so much foundational information that also needs to be taught to understand the pathology. But it’s better than posting none of it I suppose!

Are all the little purple spots, throughout, considered basophils?

There is a disease whereby the nucleus is pushed toward the outer edge of each cell. It has been a while since studying it, but I'm fascinated.

I would like to know what all those purple spots are.

Do all, or most, hospitals employ forensic pathologists? Im just curious as the cases in Arizona usually get shipped to the Medical Examiners Office for whatever county they died in. I honestly have never heard of an autopsy being done in a hospital until I started following you.
